June 12, 2019 – We dedicate this year’s show to the memory of Otto Donald Rogers who passed away in April 2019. Otto was a renowned Canadian painter and sculptor and a friend to Art in the County. For the past seven years he shared with us his passion for art and sponsored the Award of Excellence. We will miss him.

April 25, 2019 – Moving up in the world! Art in the County will inaugurate The Mess Hall- a new multi-purpose event space on the street-level of The Armoury. The space will be easily accessible by the front doors at 206 Main Street, Picton. Those of you who attended last year will remember that the show was also held at The Armoury – in a newly-renovated lower-level hall.

February 25, 2019 – We are pleased to announce a new award for 2019. The Maison Depoivre Award will be presented by Maison Depoivre to an artist whose work demonstrates risk-taking and originality, technical skill and is thought-provoking. The recipient of the award will be invited to display her/his work at Maison Depoivre for the rest of the 2019 season once Art in the County closes its doors at the beginning of July. A complete wall will be dedicated to the award recipient until mid-October 2019 (depending on the artwork sizes, it could mean 4 to 6 artworks). The curators of Maison Depoivre will select 3 finalists from the artists presenting work at Art in the County. The three AITC jurors will determine the award recipient from the 3 finalists.

2019 Community Arts Builder Award Winner

Krista Dalby is the 2019 winner of the Community Arts Builder Award. Sponsored by Sam Simone, Monica Klingenburg and Laurie Gruer of Chestnut Park Real Estate Limited Brokerage, the Community Arts Builder Award celebrates individuals who have enriched community life through the arts. Local residents were invited to nominate deserving candidates. The award includes a $250 monetary gift. The selection committee composed of Shirley Lewchuk, Laurie Gruer, and Sarah Moran stated, “It is impossible not to be aware of Krista Dalby, if you have any form of interest in the arts community of Prince Edward County. She seems to be everywhere! Art in the County and the PEC Arts Council are indeed proud to be able to present Krista with this award”.

Krista Dalby is an accomplished playwright, director, visual artist, puppeteer, and producer of theatre and public festivals. She has inspired people of all ages through year-round initiatives she has helped to initiate, organize, coordinate and/or manage.

Krista is the Artistic Director of the Department of Illumination. Founded in 2013 by a group of artists who came together to create the now beloved Firelight Lantern Festival, their work expanded this past February to include ICE BOX. With a mission to create magical arts experiences that are accessible to everyone in the community, The Department of Illumination recently became an incorporated not-for-profit organization. An integral part of the preparations for both festivals is to engage the community in making art together through special workshops and school visits.

Additional annual community festivals that Krista has established include the Scarecrow Festival, Adventure PEC, and Silobration. These have become well-attended, highly successful, and meaningful events. Krista is one of the organizers behind Creative Rural Minds, a quarterly meet-up for local artists, makers and entrepreneurs. Along with her husband painter Milé Murtanovski, Krista also runs artist-in-residence programs at their studio Small Pond Arts.
