The Ice Wall by Tom Humphries Mixed Media, 23.5 x 17.5" (sight), framed
Tom Humphries' professional area of study, research and practice included psychology, with an eventual focus on children's learning disabilities and attention disorders, His interest in art was stimulated by an elective course he took in art history early in his training. His self-study of art has included art history, theory, criticism, styles and techniques, both in the Canadian sphere and internationally. His personal painting style has been influenced by Impressionism, Post Impressionism, Expressionism and Abstract art, with an emphasis on the effects of light and colour.
Humphries strives to uncover the underlying meaning, truth, emotion, and/or societal and cultural implications of the subjects he paints, while also gaining satisfaction from the basic materiality of the act of painting itself and the problem-solving and experimentation involved therein. He has been fortunate enough to win two Honourable Mention Awards and one Jurors' Choice Awards at Art in the County and continues to sell paintings privately.
