Summer Evening by Janet Comeau Counted cross-stitch on 18ct Aida, cotton floss, 57cm x 23cm, framed
Janet Comeau has been an avid landscape photographer and fabric craftsperson for many years. It is only recently, that these two passions came together in the form of cross-stitched landscapes. Focusing on rural scenes where there is a strong dynamic between land and sky, these pieces are based on photographs taken by the artist, rendered into a pattern stitched on 18ct Aida cloth (18 stitches per inch) with cotton thread. The resulting effect is a work that appears photographic from a distance and where the stitch work is only apparent on closer inspection.
This is the second year that Comeau's work has been juried into Art in the County.
