As a sculptor, art lover, and collector Tom Ashbourne has been part of the artistic world all his adult life. His interests are eclectic, an exploration of colour, shapes and textures. The images he's drawn to present changing aspects and new points of interest each time. Ashbourne's technical knowledge comes from training under two renowned Canadian artists: sculptor, David Boorne and painter, Barbara Whelan. They taught him to explore his ideas and style, embrace experimentation, and be himself with stone and other materials.
In January 2020, Ashbourne was elected to Sculptors Society of Canada (SSC), a prestigious group of Canada’s top 80 sculptors, with national and international reputations. In May, good fortune found him again and he was elected as a member to the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA), a national, non-profit artists’ organization dedicated to expanding the visibility and stature of the visual arts In addition, he was juried into OSA’s 2020 Emerging Artists show and Artist Project 2020, both high-profile juried exhibitions.
